Castration Movie Chapter iii. Junior Ghosts—Premorphic Drift; a fragmentary passage | BFI Flare 2026

Umnia? Early? It really must be the apocalypse - in this relatively "quick" burst of Castration Movie goodness, Weard does the impossible.

Castration Movie Chapter iii. Junior Ghosts—Premorphic Drift; a fragmentary passage | BFI Flare 2026

Louise wants to test your empathy with this latest instalment — and, in a wonderful turn of events, connect all the previous films in a complete and satisfying loop.

In Chapter iii (distinct from Polygon!!!!heartmoder, which is also chapter iii), we are introduced to a crisis call line operator, Izzy, and her boyfriend Trent, who, "seemingly out of nowhere", is becoming Tiffany. Our protagonist does not take the news well, so we are led, unsanctimoniously, down the TERF pipeline.

Weard’s unique approach to the topic feels really timely — in my interview with her, she mentioned wanting to create a film where both sides are correct, in a way. How on earth, you may scream, is that possible? Wouldn’t you be elated if your partner made such a discovery of the self? Well, there are interesting details added, all the best ways of muddying the water here, where the panic of Izzy feels super heckin' valid – but that never absolves her of her bigotry, to hilarious effect.

We also get a welcome cameo (aside from the actual cameos) from our beloved Michaela, our series heroine, whose actions in this film I simply cannot endorse, unless she's doing a bit, in which case it's brilliant and performance art, and I knew it all along. She’s found a new adventure, one I believe she is well-suited for, after a bit of discussion, for sure.

It’s a fab time at the cinema, and for fans of the series, a genuinely enlightening instalment, despite being only a measly 2-hour trip. I fear I cannot say much more or I shall spoil the film, so keep an eye out for it as it hits the festival circuit - dress comfy, bring snacks. You know the drill. You're in good hands.
