In a recent Substack post, Charli muses on cool as a protective mechanism around an artist's control and integrity, cultural miscommunication and facsimile, ubiquity and the concept of passionate creation. I want to propose that something deeper is at play.

Cool was already decades into being a marketing strategy when we went to school as young girls in the 90s and 2000s.Both direct and indirect — from James Dean and movies to Britney Spears and albums, being cool was like being luxury — there were real buyers and aspirational buyers.
