🇬🇧🇪🇸Companion: Audience, Wake Up!

ENGLISH VERSION
Sitting in the theatre next to my friend after following his suggestion to do zero research on this film before going to watch it, I initially found myself crossing my arms and rolling my eyes in disappointment. How, I wondered, is it possible that they made a film with worse dialogue and ridiculous interactions than the infamously bullied Twilight saga? Did we learn nothing? Is this the future of cinema? Are we just doomed to repeat our mistakes for all eternity until-
“Iris, wake up.”
Oh. My. God.
I cannot emphasize how important it is to watch the absolute masterpiece of a debut that is “Companion” (2025) knowing as little as possible beforehand. This film is the epitome of defying the expectations and prejudices you didn’t even know you had against specific film genres, mixing and matching them until all you can do is stare at the screen in awe, a wide grin on your face.
Drew Hancock has provided the world with a much needed wake up call to the art of plot twists, reminding us that clichés aren’t a bad thing as long as you know how to use them to your advantage. How a film can begin seeming like an absolute disaster of a production only to later turn out to be the greatest foreshadowing of all time is a mystery that kept me up at night, and I urge everyone to book their own ticket right now to share the experience.
(And if the reader finds themselves concerned with potential violence being too much for them, just take my word that it is very much bearable, and very much worth it.)
SPANISH VERSION: Companion: Público, ¡a despertar!
ÂżAcaso no hemos aprendido nada?
