Primate: Nope spin-off?
"Overall, as far as slasher flicks go, it's not everyday we get one where the killer is a psychotic chimp"
Alright people! We're not going to sit here and pretend like there isn't already an extremely large elephant in the room - so I believe it's only fair that I clear this up for you all right here - right now... this is NOT Gordy from the family sitcom Gordy's Home. Okay but all jokes aside, there is absolutely no denying that director Johannes Roberts was heavily inspired by the terrifying Gordy incident from Jordan Peele's Nope (2022).
If you've seen the trailers then it's pretty self-explanatory on what the movie is about - so what's up with this crazy chimp? What's his problem? Well I'm not going to tell you (even though you could take a pretty good guess). However, if you're a fan of watching people get ripped apart - characters making dumb decisions - or to just simply have a laugh - then this is the movie for you!
Primate from the get-go fully understands what it is and what it wants to be - cliche slasher flick? Totally. But also an absolute gorefest that I guarantee most people will be surprised by - Ben the chimpanzee shows absolutely no mercy when it comes to killing his victims - I for one was not prepared to see people go the way they did - hearing the reactions from a packed audience was truly a treat to be a part of and made for quite an iconic movie experience that I won't be forgetting anytime soon.
Overall, as far as slasher flicks go, it's not everyday we get one where the killer is a psychotic chimp instead of a masked figure running around with a knife so... brownie points for bringing back the animal attack horror genre to the surface again director Johannes Roberts!
